McCCLU - this weekend!!

5 03 2009

The third annual McCCLU, McGill’s Canadian Conference for Linguistics Undergraduates, will be happening this weekend! When McCCLU was first held three years ago, it was the only event of its kind in Canada; this year, we’re proud to continue in this auspicious tradition with a program that is more engaging than ever! For three days SLUM will host speakers discussing original research in all areas of linguistics. The majority will be undergraduates, just like you! If you’re interested in seeing the sorts of fascinating things your peers are working on, possibly even leading to inspiration for your own research, you won’t be disappointed! Other highlights include:

- Keynote speeches by faculty members Heather Goad and Bernhard Schwarz
- Wine & cheese reception and drinks at Carlos & Pepe’s on Friday, pizza party Saturday, and breakfast food throughout the weekend
- Your own classmates from McGill, presenting on their research conducted within this very department!

Check out our schedule: http://mccclu.ausmcgill.com/blog/2009-schedule/

If you’re intrigued, swing by registration on Friday - 4:00-5:45 in the Linguistics building, 1085 Dr. Penfield - to sign up and get more information; if you’ve already pre-registered, come by then to receive your nametag and program. If you’ve got any questions, contact mccclu2009@gmail.com.

Hope to see you there!

SLUMwear, Study Sessions, and More!

This semester is going by soooooo fast, but SLUM still has some really exciting stuff coming up!

It’s that time of year again when SLUM offers you the chance to buy some LINGUISTICS APPAREL! And it’s not just for undergrads! This year we’re offering 2 AWESOME t-shirt/sweatshirt designs — a superschwa and a wuglife wug! You get to pick which piece of apparel you want (we’re selling womens and mens t-shirts and sweatshirts) and which design you want. Other possible customization options are that you can have the design printed on the front or back of your t-shirt, and you can opt out of the part that says “McGill Linguistics” (just be sure to indicate this clearly on your order form).  We’re also offering linguistics-themed cotton plaid boxers!
